The difference is quality at every step of the way
Because Wightman controls each and every aspect of the manufacturing process, quality is never in question. Wightman carefully monitors all processes to ensure the highest standards.
Our process at a glance:
- When logs arrive, Wightman specialists scale them to determine specie, total footage and grade.
- After bark is removed, Wightman saws logs into boards of lumber in the plant’s on-site sawmill.
- Lumber moves to large on-site dry kilns to remove moisture. Wightman hardwoods are dried to a moisture content of 6-8 percent. Softwoods are dried to a 10-12 percent moisture content.
- Once dried, the lumber moves on to specialists who grade it to determine quality.
- Graded lumber moves on through the planing process and becomes finished lumber for Wightman clients.
